 St. Nicholas Hospital has been a pioneer in kidney transplantation in Nigeria since 2000, and we remain committed to providing kidney transplant services in accordance with established ethical, medical and legal standards.
We have become aware of enquiries and approaches from individuals seeking to sell or purchase kidneys for monetary gain. We wish to make it unequivocally clear that St. Nicholas Hospital does not buy or sell kidneys or facilitate commercial organ donation.
Kidney donation at St. Nicholas Hospital must be voluntary, non-commercial and altruistic. Donors must have an appropriate genetic or emotional relationship with the intended recipient, and every potential donor is subject to a comprehensive medical, psychosocial, ethical and legal evaluation.
If there is evidence that a person is offering to donate a kidney in exchange for payment or other financial benefit, the donor will not be accepted for transplantation at St. Nicholas Hospital.
A KIDNEY IS NOT FOR SALE
Anyone approached with an offer to buy or sell a kidney, arrange a paid donation, or facilitate a commercial organ transaction using the name of St. Nicholas Hospital should exercise extreme caution and should not make payments or provide personal documents to such individuals.
St. Nicholas Hospital does not solicit members of the public to sell or donate kidneys for monetary compensation.
PROTECT YOURSELF
If you receive a message, call, email or social-media communication claiming that St. Nicholas Hospital is offering money for a kidney or arranging paid kidney donations:
DO NOT:
• Send money or make payments.
• Share sensitive personal or financial information.
• Enter into an agreement with the individual or agency.
• Assume that the person represents St. Nicholas Hospital. Please verify the communication directly with St. Nicholas Hospital through our official communication channels.
